Elma
This is a question I often get when people want to discover my books. Is it necessary to read them in order? Or can you start with the book you find most appealing? Read on for more information.
The Forbidden Iceland series begins with Elma returning to Akranes after experiencing trauma in her personal life. She first moves in with her parents before settling into her own apartment and joining the local police force as a detective. Soon after a body is discoverd by the lighthouses in town. Each book features a new case for Elma and her colleagues to investigate, allowing them to be read as standalones. However, for those who want to follow Elma’s personal journey and character development, I recommend reading the series in publication order, starting with The Creak on the Stairs.
That said, I did write one book in the series that takes place before Elma arrives in Akranes, and it can be read at any time—perfect for when you’re in the mood for something a little different! While detectives Sævar and Hörður are still present, Elma has yet to move to Akranes. Instead, the story revolves around the wealthy Snæberg family, who have rented an entire hotel on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula for the weekend to celebrate their father’s 100th birthday.
This setting is especially close to my heart—it’s near Arnarstapi, where my family has a cabin. As a child, I would listen to my grandparents tell stories late into the night about elves and hidden people, and I believe that’s where my love for dark tales and storytelling first began. This book is my tribute to that magical place.
Hope you this helps you decide where you want to start diving into my fictional world!
